Jennifer Lopez has landed a key role in a new HBO movie "The Cocaine Godmother". She will play the notorious drug lord, Griselda Blanco, who became the most powerful female cartel member of all time for revolutionizing the U.S. drug trade during the 1970s and 1980s.

"I've been fascinated by the life of this corrupt and complicated woman for many years," the singer/actress said in a statement. "The idea of teaming with HBO felt like the perfect fit for finally bringing Griselda's story to life."

J.Lo who currently stars on NBC's crime drama series "Shades of Blue" will also executive produce the TV movie. She indeed has been eying the role since 2012. Mark Wahlberg who was working on a project called "Cocaine Cowboys" for Paramount told MTV back then, "It's one of those characters that will go down in history. Jennifer Lopez is chasing that [role] like crazy."
