Morgan Freeman is eyed to star in Disney's "The Nutcracker and the Four Realms". According to The Hollywood Reporter, he is in negotiations to play the mysterious Drosselmeyer in the live-action adaptation of E.T.A. Hoffman's 1816 short story titled "The Nutcracker and the Mouse King".

If the deal is closed, the 79-year-old actor will join Misty Copeland and Mackenzie Foy in the upcoming fantasy film. Lasse Hallstrom is on board to direct the film based on a screenplay written by Ashleigh Powell. Mark Gordon produces the live-action project, with Lindy Goldstein executive producing. Sam Dickerman and Allison Erlikhman oversee the project for Disney.

Based on the popular Christmas Eve tale, the story is about a young girl who finds a Nutcracker doll among the family's gifts and is charged by her parents to take special care of it. Under the cover of darkness, the Nutcracker comes to life along with an evil Mouse King with seven heads, introducing the girl to the magical world of toys and the brave Nutcracker who will change her life forever.

Freeman was recently starring opposite Jesse Eisenberg in "Now You See Me 2" and alongside Gerard Butler in "London Has Fallen". He can next be seen in MGM's "Ben-Hur" which hits U.S. theaters on August 19 this year and Zach Braff's "Going in Style" which is due out April 7, 2017.
