AceShowbiz - "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows" takes the No. 1 spot of the North American box office with an estimated $35.5 million. The sequel to "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" comes in $30 million shy of its predecessor's opening gross.
With a hefty $135 million budget, "TMNT 2" will likely rely on its foreign grosses to recoup its budget, which thus far stands at around $34 million for a global debut of $69.3 million. The first film earned $65.6 million on its way to grossing $493.2 million worldwide.
"X-Men: Apocalypse" comes in second place in its second weekend, declining 66 percent to an estimated $22.3 million for a domestic total of $116.5 million. Overseas, the ninth installment of "X-Men" film series has no trouble beating the turtles, earning around $84.4 million for a foreign total of $286 million and a global total of the $400 million.
"Me Before You" debuts in third place with an estimated $18.3 million. "Alice Through the Looking Glass" lands fourth place with around $10.7 million, while "The Angry Birds Movie" rounds out the top five domestically in its third weekend with $10.8 million.
"Zootopia", meanwhile, has crossed the $1 billion mark at the global box office, becoming the second film of 2016 to achieve the milestone after fellow Disney flick "Captain America: Civil War". The animated movie has grossed around $337.2 million domestically and around $662.8 million internationally.
