"Fear the Walking Dead" is taking a hiatus until August, but we've already got a glimpse of what to expect when the show returns. A promo for the new episode highlights Nick, who abandons his mother Madison and the rest of the group to go on a solo quest.

A woman warns him about the north road that is full of "the worst of men," but Nick seems to ignore that warning and go ahead with his plans. He's seen going through the woods and he apparently uses drug again.

Not long after, he's getting a shot in the leg and having a breakdown on the road, as several rough men point their guns to someone or something unseen.

In the latest episode, [SPOILER ALERT!] Daniel burnt the compound after having delirium caused by the death of his wife. "This is a man who has committed atrocities. He has tortured, he has murdered," showrunner Dave Erickson tells Yahoo TV of what causing Daniel's breakdown. "All of his life he had Griselda, and Griselda knew what he had done, and she gave him forgiveness. She gave him some degree of acceptance and solace. Then she dies."

"But it's without the emotional protection of Griselda where Daniel starts to break down, and it starts in episode 2," Erickson continues. "He does believe the compound is evil, he does believe that Celia is embracing evil, and the dead in that wine cellar become the embodiment and representation of all of his dead as well. And in burning them and burning down this evil place, he feels that he's able to cleanse himself, his own sins."

So, was that the end of Daniel? Erickson says, "No one should hold their breath to see Daniel in the back half of season 2. Ruben [Blades'] amazing, the character's amazing, and this is, I think from the story perspective, it's going to do good things for us, and then the hope is that when we get to season 3, we can find a way to return him to the fold."
