Josh Boone has been mysteriously posting photos of comic book characters from the "X-Men" universe and tagging them as #NewMutants. The filmmaker, who was announced as director of "The New Mutants", is likely teasing fans about which characters will appear in the "X-Men" spin-off.
Should the theory be true, the New Mutants team will be comprised of Wolfsbane, Mirage, Cannonball, Sunspot, Magik and Warlock. These characters have indeed appeared in the New Mutants comic books. Four of them, with the exception of Magik and Warlock, are even the original team members of the clan.
Cannonball and Mirage are inevitable choice because they are leaders of the team. And given the popularity of "Deadpool", Magik would be a pretty obvious choice because she is the sister of Colossus. There are still more than a dozen of other characters from the series and Boone, who's also writing for the movie, could be far from done with the revelations.
A month ago, it was reported that Maisie Williams and Anya Taylor-Joy were among those eying a role in the movie. Williams was said to be up to play Rahne Sinclair, better known as Wolfsbane, while Taylor-Joy was stepping up to play Illya Rasputin a.k.a. Magik. Other than these casting news, the project has not been moving forward really significantly until Boone's Instagram posts.
There's no release date set for "The New Mutants" yet, but it's expected to arrive in 2018.
