AceShowbiz - Keith Emerson, an English musician who rose to fame as the keyboardist for prog-rock band Emerson, Lake & Palmer, was found dead on Thursday, March 10. Keith's death was investigated as a suicide, TMZ reports.
The talented musician was 71 years old when his body was discovered by his girlfriend in their home in Santa Monica, California. Police Department in the city later confirmed that Keith died of a self-infected gunshot wound.
Keith's death was confirmed on the band's official Facebook page, but it didn't mention the cause of his death. "We regret to announce that Keith Emerson died last night at his home in Santa Monica, Los Angeles, aged 71. We ask that the family's privacy and grief be respected," the post read.

Keith's bandmate, Carl Palmer, released a touching statement to mourn the death of his friend. He said," I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of my good friend and brother-in-music, Keith Emerson. Keith was a gentle soul whose love for music and passion for his performance as a keyboard player will remain unmatched for many years to come."
Carl went on mentioning Keith's contribution to the music industry. "He was a pioneer and an innovator whose musical genius touched all of us in the worlds of rock, classical and jazz," he continued. "I will always remember his warm smile, good sense of humor, compelling showmanship, and dedication to his musical craft. I am very lucky to have known him and to have made the music we did, together. Rest in peace, Keith."
