Universal is still planning to develop a huge film franchise based on the TV series by nabbing 'Fifty Shades of Grey' producer Michael De Luca among others.

"Battlestar Galactica" movie is still happening at Universal. A massive event franchise is in plan with Powerhouse's Michael De Luca and Scott Stuber and Dylan Clark of Bluegrass Films on board to produce.
"Battlestar Galactica" is originally a TV series created by Glen A. Larson and aired on ABC between 1978 and 1979. Syfy revived the show in 2004 and canceled it after four seasons. News of a movie adaptation surfaced in 2014 with Bryan Singer attached to direct. However, there was no significant development until now.
No writers are attached to the project yet but "Transcendence" scribe Jack Paglen wrote the most recent version of the script, which is expected to draw more inspiration from the 1978 series rather than the Syfy series. Singer's involvement is no longer valid because he has more "X-Men" movies ahead in addition to "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea".
The "Battlestar Galactica" series follows the remnants of humanity who escaped the destruction of their worlds at the hands of the Cylons. While continuing to evade these robotics menaces, they attempt to find the mythical planet Earth to make their new home.
