HBO programming president Michael Lombardo promises that a 'Deadwood' movie is 'going to happen.'

AceShowbiz - A "Deadwood" movie is indeed coming soon. Years after talks of the possible TV film first emerged, HBO programming president Michael Lombardo now confirms that he has given a go to the project.

"David [Milch - series creator] has our commitment that we are going to do it," Lombardo tells TVLine. "He pitched what he thought generally the storyline would be - and knowing David, that could change. But it's going to happen."

Having known Milch for a while, Lombardo had a "palpable" sense that Milch "has something left unsaid" with regard to "Deadwood". He shares, "I've known him for a while and it feels like it's something he's not done talking about."

Lombardo adds that Milch will focus on the "Deadwood" movie once he finishes the project he's currently working on. "But the understanding is that when he is done with that he will turn his attention to [writing the] script for the 'Deadwood' film," he says.

As for whether the now in-demand cast will be able to reunite for the movie, Lombardo says, "I'm going to leave that in David's hands. He's confident he will be able to." He adds, "The cast is unbelievably [tight]. Some casts and creators form a bond that becomes relevant for the rest of their lives. This was a defining moment for a lot of them."

"Deadwood", a western drama set in 1870s that charts Deadwood's growth from camp to town, ran for three seasons from 2004 to 2006. Timothy Olyphant and Ian McShane starred on the critically acclaimed series which won eight Emmy Awards out of 28 nominations.
