As "Pacific Rim 2" has been on the backburner, Guillermo del Toro is apparently ready to take another project soon. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the filmmaker is currently in talks with 20th Century Fox and James Cameron's Lightstorm Entertainment to develop and direct "Fantastic Voyage" remake.

The remake of the 1966 sci-fi movie will not only reunite del Toro with Cameron, but also reteam him with David Goyer, the screenwriter of his action horror movie, "Blade 2". Goyer, alongside Justin Rhodes, worked on the script for the "Voyage" remake. In addition to penning the script, Goyer will executive produce the movie. However, the studio hasn't dated the project yet.

"Voyage" focuses on a team of scientists who are shrunk to atomic size to save the life of a scientist who is dying of blood clot. In order to do so, the miniaturized scientists are sent in a miniature submarine inside the body of the dying.

The remake has been in development for many years with a growing number of potential directors (Roland Emmerich, Paul Greengrass, Shawn Levy), stars (Will Smith, Hugh Jackman) and screenwriters (Shane Salerno, Laeta Kalogridis, Marianne & Cormac Wibberley). del Toro is the latest name added to the list of potential directors for the movie.

Regarding del Toro's "Pacific Rim 2" project, some sources said that it was taken off the release schedule for more development. Most recent report revealed that it's "off the table indefinitely." However, some people speculated that the potential acquisition of Legendary by Chinese conglomerate Wanda would encourage the development of the "Pacific Rim" sequel.
