Based on the evidences presented on the Netflix docu-series, viewers are asking President Obama to release Steven Avery who's accused of murdering a woman in 2005.

AceShowbiz - Thousands of "Making a Murderer" fans are asking President Obama to release Steven Avery and his nephew Brendan Dassey, the subjects of the Netflix docu-series. More than 100,000 people have signed online petitions launched back in December around the same time the 10-part series was released.

Over 17,000 people have signed the Whitehouse.gov petition along with almost 98,000 people signing a similar petition from Change.org. If the government petition collects 100,000 signatures by January 16, then the White House has to respond publicly.

Avery is currently serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole for the 2005 murder of a young photographer named Teresa Halbach. Prior to the case, the Wisconsin man served 18 years in prison for sexually assaulting another woman and was released in 2003 after DNA evidence exonerated him.

Dassey, meanwhile, is serving life in prison with the possibility of parole after 40 years. He was arrested for the Halbach case and had admitted to playing a part in her murder though his uncle still maintains his innocence.

The petitions on Whitehouse.gov and Change.org seek a presidential pardon for both Avery and Dassey based on the evidence presented on "Making a Murderer". "The justice system embarrassingly failed both men, completely ruining their entire lives," the Whitehouse.gov petition reads. "This is a black mark on the justice system as a whole, and should be recognized as such, while also giving these men the ability to live as normal a life as possible."
