Scott Weiland's former bandmates in Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver have paid tribute to the late singer in touching statements. The 48-year-old rocker died in his sleep on Thursday, December 3 on his tour bus in Minnesota at around 9 P.M.

"Let us start by saying thank you for sharing your life with us. Together we crafted a legacy of music that has given so many people happiness and great memories," Stone Temple Pilots' guitarist Dean DeLeo, bassist Robert DeLeo and drummer Eric Kretz wrote. "With deep sorrow for you and your family, we are saddened to see you go."

STP was formed in the '80s by Weiland and DeLeo. The band had a temporary break-up in 2002, during which Weiland formed Velvet Revolver with Slash. The vocalist was infamously fired from STP in 2013. "The memories are many, and they run deep for us. We know amidst the good and the bad you struggled, time and time again. It's what made you who you were. Part of that gift was part of your curse. With deep sorrow for you and your family, we are saddened to see you go. All of our love and respect," a statement from STP continued.

Velvet Revolver also paid their respect to Weiland in a statement, saying, "We are deeply saddened to learn of the loss of our old friend and bandmate, Scott Weiland. We experienced a good chunk of life with Scott and, even in his darkest times, we all had hope and love for him. His artistry will live on, of that, there is no doubt. Deepest condolences and sadness are for his children, Noah and Lucy."

Weiland reunited with the supergroup in 2014 after leaving the band four years before. During the time of his death, he was fronting a new group called The Wildabouts which was about to take the stage at Medina Ballroom that night.
