The seventh installment of the 'Star Wars' film series is the second flick to receive a PG-13 rating following 2005's 'Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith'.

AceShowbiz - "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" has officially gotten a PG-13 rating for content described as "sci-fi action violence." It marks the second "Star Wars" film to receive a PG-13 rating following 2005's "Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith".

PG-13 is the default rating for mainstream blockbusters including this year's "Jurassic World", "Avengers: Age of Ultron", "Furious 7" and "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 2". In total, eight of this year's top 10 movies are rated PG-13.

All other "Star Wars" films were released in PG ratings as the PG-13 rating was only created in 1984, after the release of the original "Star Wars" trilogy.

Empire recently released six magazine covers featuring Rey and BB-8 in Jakku, Phasma, Finn wielding his blue lightsaber, Poe Dameron wearing his pilot costume, villainous Kylo Ren and Han Solo, who is accompanied by Chewbacca.

"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" starring Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, John Boyega, Daisy Ridley and Oscar Isaac opens in U.S. theaters on December 18. The seventh installment of the "Star Wars" film series is predicted to rack up at least $170 million domestically in its opening weekend.
