The 'Iron Man 3' actress claims that the term 'conscious uncoupling,' which she used while announcing divorce from Chris Martin, broke the internet.

AceShowbiz - Gwyneth Paltrow admitted that her divorce from Chris Martin caused a stir online. In a sit-down with Goop CEO Lisa Gersh at the Fast Company Innovation Festival in New York City on Tuesday, November 10, Gwyneth claimed that the term "conscious uncoupling," which she used while announcing divorce from Chris, broke the internet.

"When I was announcing, my husband and I were separating and we were trying to follow this specific way of doing it and the philosophy is conscious uncoupling [and we] broke the f**king internet," Gwyneth joked. "At the time, I was like 'Oh, my gosh.' It was such a hard time personally, and then you have this added layer of all this criticism."

"Then when you look back you go, 'Well, this is actually kind of a good thing to talk back, introducing in some way.' Like, what if you could break up in a way where you remain a family even though you're not a couple? And what would be that effect on your children and your community?" the "Iron Man 3" actress said of the term.

Nevertheless, Gwyneth explained that the term had been invented prior to her divorce announcement. "Even though we did it in an inelegant way - because it was such an emotional time and we didn't give it as much context and didn't explain [that it] wasn't something that I was inventing - it was already an established theory," said the blonde beauty. The term was first developed by best-selling author Katherine Woodward Thomas. It is a five-week program that helps couples split in an amicable way.

Gwyneth and the Coldplay singer announced their divorce in early 2014. Following their divorce, their relationship remains amicable. The actress is currently dating "Scream Queens" executive producer Brad Falchuk. Meanwhile, Chris is dating Annabelle Wallis after splitting from Jennifer Lawrence.
