The singer is to be honored with the award for becoming 'a role model for many, a feminist, an independent voice whose new album truly showcases her as a mature artist.'

AceShowbiz - Selena Gomez will be among honorees at Billboard's annual Women in Music Event later this year. The former Disney star has been confirmed as the next recipient of the Chart Topper Award, which is given to artists with major career milestones on Billboard's music charts. Iggy Azalea received the same prize last year.

"In the last few months, Selena has broken onto the scene as an adult, and come into her own as an artist with the success of 'Revival'," said Janice Min, co-president and chief creative officer of Guggenheim Media's Entertainment Group, which consists of Billboard and The Hollywood Reporter.

"We want to highlight this moment for a woman who has become a role model for many, a feminist, an independent voice whose new album truly showcases her as a mature artist," she added.

Gomez has indeed been dominating the charts with her latest releases. Her "Revival" album, which came out earlier this month, debuted at No. 1 on Billboard 200 with 117,000 equivalent album units that included 85,000 in pure album sales. It's her second set to top the chart, following 2013's "Stars Dance"

The first "Revival" single, "Good for You", never reached No. 1 on Billboard Hot 100, but it became Gomez's fastest-ever platinum seller and highest charting single on the list. Despite missing the singles chart's top spot, the track ruled the Top 40 radio for three consecutive weeks.

The 2015 Billboard Women in Music is scheduled to take place on December 11 in New York. Lady Gaga will also be honored during the ceremony, which will air on Lifetime on December 18. The Mother Monster has been announced as the 2015 Woman of the Year for her industry leadership, artistry, philanthropy, innovative contribution to music and inspiration to millions.
