'Independence Day: Resurgence' Comic Book Prequel Is in the Works

Titan Comics announced that they would release a comic book series which serves as a prequel to the second installment of 'Independence Day' movie series.

AceShowbiz - Roland Emmerich's "Independence Day: Resurgence" takes place 20 years after the events of the original 1996 movie, "Independence Day". To fill in the time gaps, Titan Comics has a plan to release a new comic book series prequel to the new movie, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

According to the publisher, the new comic book series will be "a rich psychological prison drama" set after the events of the original 1996 movie. Editor Steve White hinted that the comics would be "a golden opportunity to segue nicely into next year's blockbuster sequel by taking the mythos of the original and maybe adding a little darkness to it."

The comic book series has no official title. It is still in early stages as there is no comic book writer or artist has been announced yet. Although details are still scarce, there has been a speculation that it involves an alien imprisoned on earth after the events of the original "Independence Day".

Besides directing "Independence Day: Resurgence", Emmerich wrote the first draft of the script alongside Dean Devlin. The sequel brings back Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Vivica A. Fox, Judd Hirsch and Brent Spiner along with new additions Liam Hemsworth, Maika Monroe, William Fichtner, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Joey King and Sela Ward. The sci-fi movie will be released Stateside on June 24, 2016.
