Days after he claimed he never heard of Mendes, the 'Baby' hitmaker praised the budding singer on Instagram, saying he's 'proud' and 'glad to see another boy from Canada crushin it.'

Justin Bieber now knows who Shawn Mendes is, and he wants everyone to know that. Days after he claimed he'd never heard of the budding singer, who also hailed from Canada, the 21-year-old superstar took to Instagram on Thursday, September 17 to give Mendes a shout-out while helping promote his single "Stitches".
Bieber posted on the photo-sharing site the cover art of Mendes' "Handwritten" album. He then showered the teen with praise in the caption, saying, "Shawn I checked out the music and I'm so proud! So glad to see another boy from Canada crushin it. #canadiansdoitbetter." He also urged more than 67 million of his Twitter followers to check out Mendes' music.

Responding to the interview, Mendes toild the U.K.'s Digital Spy he's kind of sure Bieber knew about him. "He probably knows of me," he said before jokingly adding, "Maybe he just hates me!"
