Andrew Garfield Wants 'Pansexual Spider-Man'
Movie

The Peter Parker of 'The Amazing Spider-Man' says he has 'no preference' as to how Spidey's sexual orientation is depicted.

AceShowbiz - Andrew Garfield says it's time for a different Spider-Man. "I'm excited to get to the point where we don't have to have this conversation - where we can have a pansexual Spider-Man," says the actor who played Peter Parker in Marc Webb's "The Amazing Spider-Man" series.

"The richness of the world we're in, the diversity of the world we're in; you look at the animal kingdom and you see it reflected. You look all over," he continues. "What are we so scared of? Why are we so, 'No, it has to be this way, a man and a woman.' Why is that even a conversation?"

"We're scared of things that aren't us," the star adds. "Love is love. Skin is skin. Flesh is flesh. We're all wrapped in the same thing. I have no preference."

"The beauty about Spider-Man, for me, is that he's covered head to toe," he explains. "That's why everyone thinks it could be them in that suit. You don't see skin color. You don't see sexual orientation. You don't see how old the person is, gender, the whole thing. I celebrate that. Anyone can be a hero in their own lives."

Back in 2013, Garfield told Entertainment Weekly, "I was kind of joking, but kind of not joking about MJ. And I was like, 'What if MJ is a dude?' Why can't we discover that Peter is exploring his sexuality? It's hardly even groundbreaking! ... So why can't he be gay? Why can't he be into boys?"

The new Spidey will be introduced in "Captain America: Civil War" with Tom Holland playing the wall crawler. Producer Kevin Feige said the reboot would be inspired by John Hughes, the director of classic teen movies like "Breakfast Club" and "Sixteen Candles".
