Johnny Depp's wife Amber Heard didn't appear at a court hearing on Monday, September 7 dealing with allegation that she illegally brought their dogs Pistol and Boo to Queensland, Australia. The 29-year-old actress needs to wait until November to find out if she faces jail time over the case.

Heard was charged in July with two counts of smuggling their dogs into Australia and one count of producing a false document. She could be forced to pay a hefty fine of up to $100,000 or serve up to 10 years in prison if found guilty. However, some legal experts argued that a lengthy jail term was unlikely because the dogs were flown back to the U.S. before a government deadline.

The controversy began in May when Heard was accompanying Depp to Australia to continue filming the newest sequel of the pirate movie, "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales". The pair were said bringing the two dogs illegally on their private jet because they didn't declare them when they returned to Australia.

The report of illegally smuggling the pets was quickly responded by Australian Agriculture Minister Barnaby Joyce. He said, "Mr. Depp has to either take his dogs back to California or we are going to have to euthanize them. He has now got about 50 hours left to remove the dogs. He can put them on the same charter jet he flew out on and fly them back out of our nation."

During a press conference for his film "Black Mass" at the Venice Film Festival over the weekend, the 52-year-old actor poked fun at the case by saying that he killed and ate his dogs. He said, "I killed my dogs and ate them under direct orders from some kind of, I don't know, sweaty, big-gutted man from Australia."
