Apple Music has reportedly threatened to take legal action against Tidal over a performance by Drake. According to PageSix, the Apple-owned company wasn't happy when the rapper's confirmed to make an appearance at Lil Wayne's charity concert which was streamed live by Jay-Z's streaming service.
Drake, an artist of Wayne's Young Money, recently signed an exclusive deal with Apple. While details of the deal aren't available for public, Apple's lawsuit suggests that the Canadian native's cross-platform performance on Tidal would constitute a breach of contract.
"Legal letters have been sent to Tidal warning that Drake cannot appear on the Tidal stream of the festival, either solo or part of a group, and if the warning was ignored, the liabilities could be up to $20 million," a source allegedly told PageSix.
Dubbed Lil WeezyAna Fest, Tunechi's charity concert took place in New Orleans on Friday night, August 28. The show's aimed to benefit kids affected by Hurricane Katrina.
Drake did perform at the event, but his set ended up getting blocked from Tidal. At one point during the live streaming, Tidal shared a message blaming Apple for the inconvenience. "Apple is interfering with artistry and will not allow this artist to stream," they wrote. "We'll be back after the performance."
