AceShowbiz - Adventure drama movie "Kong: Skull Island" eyes a new actor. According to Variety, Corey Hawkins is in talks to star in the film, reteaming with Legendary Pictures.

There is no word yet on what character Hawkins will play, but he will join the likes of Tom Hiddleston and Brie Larson with Jordan Vogt-Roberts on board to direct the movie. Thomas Tull, Jon Jashni and Mary Parent will produce the movie with Alex Garcia and Eric McLeod tapped as executive produces.

Meanwhile, Max Borenstein, John Gatins and Dan Gilroy pen the script which will feature the origin story of Kong. While plot details are still scarce, the story will be set in the mysterious, dangerous home of the king of the apes as a team of explorers ventures deep inside the island.

Hawkins already received early praise for his performance as Dr. Dre in Universal and Legendary's "Straight Outta Compton". He will next be seen on the upcoming season of AMC's series "The Walking Dead". Previously, he starred in "Non-Stop", "Iron Man 3" and most recent Broadway production "Romeo and Juliet".

Earlier this year, J.K. Simmons and Michael Keaton were set to star in "Skull Island". However, the two actors had exited the project apparently due to scheduling conflicts. After the duo departed, the project pushed back its production from early fall to before the end of the year. The movie is slated for a release in the U.S. on March 10, 2017.
