The actor who portrayed the older version of Professor X in 'X-Men' movie franchise visited the set of 'X-Men: Apocalypse', resparking rumors which said that he might return to the film.

AceShowbiz - A new picture from the set of "X-Men: Apocalypse" has landed online. Director Bryan Singer has shared a photo on Instagram of Patrick Stewart visiting the set of the film. The photo resparks the speculation that Stewart may return to the film in some capacity.

Featured in the photo are Stewart, Singer, "Up in the Air" director Jason Reitman and other crew members. "Trying to look intensely thoughtful, @sirpatstew and #jasonreitman visiting #xmen #apocalypse #xmenapocalypse set and reminiscing about our own #daysoffuturepast. Singer tried to make things clear as he stressed that Stewart was only visiting the set in Montreal. Singer also mentioned that he was looking forward to the live-reading of "The Big Lebowski" which Reitman hosted as part of the Just for Laughs comedy festival in Montreal. It turned out that Stewart went to the "Apocalypse" set to pick up Jennifer Lawrence and Michael Fassbender who would be involved in the live-reading.

Despite rumors which said Stewart might appear as Professor X through time travel, the actor had declared that neither he nor co-star Ian McKellen was going to be popping up in "X-Men: Apocalypse". Back in February, Stewart teased fans that he might return for "The Wolverine 3", which is set for a March 3, 2017 release.

"X-Men: Apocalypse" features the conflict and war caused by the titular villain after he awakens from his Egyptian tomb. Mystique (Lawrence), Beast (Nicholas Hoult), Magneto (Fassbender) and Professor X (James McAvoy) team up with other X-Men members to fight the new enemy. The movie will arrive in U.S. theaters on May 27, 2016.
