Two new characters are confirmed to join "The Flash". During a panel at San Diego Comic-Con, Teddy Sears was announced to play Jay Garrick and Shantel VanSanten was cast as Patty Spivot, a new love interest for Grant Gustin's Barry Allen.

In the DC Comics universe, Garrick is the original Flash. On the TV show, the character is described as "a mysterious figure who arrives in Central City to warn Barry Allen and his team at S.T.A.R. Labs of an impending danger that he alone cannot hope to stop."

"Having Jay Garrick come onto the show was one of our earliest ideas," executive producer Andrew Kreisberg said. "It is so exciting, as we rush into season two, that we finally get to bring the Crimson Comet to life. We couldn't imagine anyone more suited to play the original Flash than Teddy."

Meanwhile, Spivot is a science enthusiast who is obsessed with metahumans and partners with Det. Joe West in the upcoming sophomore season. She is unaware that Allen has a crush on her.

A new enemy was also confirmed at Comic-Con. Zoom is set to antagonize The Flash in the next installment. He's "going to be faster than Reverse-Flash, faster than the Flash," Kreisberg opened up. On top of that, Wally West, another character to take up The Flash mantle, is coming to the show as well.
