Bubba Watson decides to remove the Confederate Flag painted on the roof of the General Lee car he purchased at an auction in 2012. The pro golfer plans to paint the Star-Spangled Banner in place of the controversial flag. "All men ARE created equal, I believe that so I will be painting the American flag over the roof of the General Lee #USA," he tweeted.

General Lee is an iconic car featured on the classic show "The Dukes of Hazzard". In the wake of the Charleston shooting on June 17, the TV series is entangled in controversy over the Confederate flag that was painted on the vehicle. TV Land has since yanked off the show's reruns from schedule.

Confederate merchandise has also been dropped by Wal-Mart, Target, and Amazon after the shocking incident that left nine people dead. Warner Bros., which produced the show, is also no longer licensing toy cars and models featuring the General Lee car with the controversial flag.

On top of that, NASCAR's national series tracks asked fans to refrain from displaying the Confederate Flag at the racetracks. "We are asking our fans and partners to join us in a renewed effort to create an all-inclusive, even more welcoming atmosphere for all who attend our events," they said in a statement.

"After all of the controversy and everything, I don't want to offend anybody," Watson explains his decision to join the movement to remove the controversial flag. "The car is American history, so why not the American flag on it? The show is a great show. It was what me and my dad watched. There was no racism in the show, but the flag offends people, so I thought for sure that was what we should do is to take it off. Remove it, hide it, whatever you want to call it. And make sure nobody is offended by it."

"I bought it because of the show. I bought it because who doesn't want a car that jumped? It jumped six days after I was born. When I looked at the show, there was no racism in the show. It was about a car that was jumping. It just happened to have an 01 and a flag on the top," he says as quoted by ESPN. "All my friends, nobody is offended by it, but now with all of the controversy going on, I felt like it was the right thing to do. Make a statement, make a gesture, whatever you want to call it."
