Kanye West helped his pastor Rich Wilkerson, Jr., who officiated his marriage to Kim Kardashian in May 2014, design book cover for his novel "Sandcastle King". The first photo of the novel cover was released on Tuesday, June 23.
"Kanye is a really good friend," Rich told PEOPLE, explaining why he chose Kanye to create his book cover. "We chat every week about different things: clothes, design, music, architecture, Jesus."
"He's an amazing artist and designer, and with my first book coming out, I thought it would be fun for him to design the cover," he added. "I asked him if he wanted to do it, and he was all about it. He was really enthusiastic."
Rich noted that he wanted the book cover to be artistic as opposed to the conventional covers displayed on bookshelves. "It looks more like art than a book cover," Rich said of Kanye's design. "It's clean, minimalistic, and simple, with big brush strokes. It's exactly what I hoped it would be."
"Sandcastle Kings", subtitled "Meeting Jesus in a Spiritually Bankrupt World", is aimed at helping readers achieve true happiness and personal success using "a passage in Luke to talk about faith and Jesus." Rich added, "And how there are things - self, others, religion, and the world - that can get in the way of your faith."
