Movie

The 'Stretch' director is eyed to rewrite the script and possibly direct the third installment of 'Bad Boys' movie series starring Will Smith and Martin Lawrence.

Already being in the works for several years, now Sony Pictures' "Bad Boys 3" seems to take a big step forward. According to Deadline, Joe Carnahan is in talks to rewrite the existing script by David Guggenheim ("Safe House"), and possibly direct the long-in-development movie.

The studio hopes that Will Smith and Martin Lawrence will return for the third film. Moreover, the studio tries to put the project on fast track so that it can be Smith's next movie right after he's finished with Warner Bros.' "Suicide Squad".

Smith and Lawrence starred in 1995's "Bad Boys" and 2003's "Bad Boys 2" with Michael Bay directing both films. The two films were quite successful with the first grossing over $140 million worldwide and the second taking in over $270 million.

Although Carnahan doesn't have a deal in place yet, he seems to be a good choice to take over the franchise. His big-budget directing credits include "The Grey", "The A-Team" and "Smokin' Aces". Additionally, Carnahan directed "Stretch", starring Patrick Wilson and Chris Pine, and he has worked on NBC's dramas "The Blacklist" and "State of Affairs".

Jerry Bruckheimer is presumably involved as a producer for "Bad Boys 3" although there is no confirmation from him or anyone close to the production as of yet.
