The new "Star Wars" movie may be one of the biggest films of this year, but it doesn't make Brad Bird and Damon Lindelof agree to to take part in the movie. While their sci-fi "Tomorrowland" will hit U.S. theaters on May 22, the director and the writer explain why they turned down the chance to work on "Star Wars: The Force Awakens".

Bird explained that he passed on directing the film because he wanted to focus on "Tomorrowland". He said that it wouldn't be successful without his full involvement, "I love 'Star Wars', but 'Star Wars' is going to get made whether I do it or not. And I thought there's a chance that 'Tomorrowland' wont get made, simply because it loses its momentum."

Same as Bird, Lindelof recently told fans that he would not write for any "Star Wars" movies. "I can tell you that I've had no conversations with anyone, on a formal or informal level, about working on any 'Star Wars' project," Lindelof said. He also explained that he wanted to make something more original by working on a project which is not originated or adapted from book or any other media.

"I would certainly never say never, but right now, whether 'Tomorrowland' succeeds or fails, I'm committed to a space of trying to make something more original," he explained. "If it's an original piece, I f**ked up my own thing, which I've also been accused of, mind you. But it would be immensely distracting to the fans, for my name to be involved in the franchise at this stage."
