Yolanda has been suffering Lyme disease for over 2 years. She mentioned that it took almost a year for American doctors to properly diagnose her.

She has been traveling abroad to find cure for her disease which she names a nightmare. She visited Mexico and Singapore, to name a few, in attempt to find the best treatment for the disease and now she is staying in Germany.

The 51-year-old has also raised awareness about Lyme disease and received Lyme Research Alliance's Star Award in 2013 for the effort. Last month, she attempted to raise awareness of this disease through Lyme Challenge which went viral on social media.

Lyme disease is an infection caused by bacteria of Borrelia type. It is transmitted to humans through the bite of an infected blacklegged tick. Symptoms include pain in the muscles or joints, fever, headache, fatigue and skin rash.

Though the medical data of this disease has been available since 1908 and it has become the most commonly reported illness transmitted by insects, proper diagnostic testing, a vaccine, or a cure for Lyme disease has not been available, to date, in the U.S., Yolanda wrote on her blog.
