AceShowbiz - Congratulations are in order for Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton. The Duchess of Cambridge gave birth to their second child Saturday, April 2 at the Lindo Wing at St Mary's Hospital. It's the first female born in the royal family in a very long time.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge showed off their newborn on the steps of the hospital before returning home to Kensington Palace. The Duchess wearing a Jenny Packham frock was all smiles as she cradled the little princess who seemed to be fast asleep.

The name of the baby is yet to be announced. She joins big brother Prince George who was born in July 2013. The little boy was held by his father as he waved to the crowd in front of the hospital. The father-son duo wore color-coordinating sweaters.

"The Duchess of Cambridge was admitted at 06.00hrs to St Mary's Hospital, Paddington, London and is in the early stages of labour," the palace tweeted. "The Duchess travelled by car from Kensington Palace to the Lindo Wing at St. Mary's Hospital with The Duke of Cambridge."

"Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge was safely delivered of a daughter at 8.34am. The baby weighs 8lbs 3oz. The Duke of Cambridge was present for the birth," the announcement continued. "Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well."

"Their Royal Highnesses would like to thank all staff at the hospital for the care and treatment they have all received," the palace added. "They would also like to thank everyone for their warm wishes."

Congratulations and well wishes came pouring in to the family. President Barack Obama said in a statement, "Michelle and I are delighted to congratulate the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, her Majesty the Queen and the Royal Family, and all the people of the United Kingdom on the birth of the Royal Princess. On behalf of the American people, we wish the Duke and Duchess and their son George much joy and happiness on the occasion of the arrival of the newest member of their family."
