Mae Whitman Replaced by Maika Monroe in 'Independence Day 2', Fans Outraged
Movie

The 'Arrested Development' star will not return to reprise her role as the president's daughter in 'Independece Day 2' and will be replaced by Maika Monroe.

AceShowbiz - While the sequel of "Independence Day" is underway, surprising news about one of the original stars, Mae Whitman, may not please fans. Whitman who portrayed Patricia Whitmore in the first installment of the sci-fi franchise will not be coming back reprising her role.

Instead, Maika Monroe will replace Whitman to play the daughter of the President of the United States. Before being chosen to take part in the film, Monroe beat out Lucy Boynton, Merritt Patterson, Brittany Robertson, and Gabriella Wilde for the part.

Replacing Whitman with Monroe seems to be a not really good decision. Some fans took to Twitter to express their disappointment. One Twitter user asked, "Why did you recast Mae Whitman? Like really?" Among the angry fans was Anna Kendrick who also didn't agree with the replacement. She tweeted, "What the actual f**k?" She added while mentioning Whitman, "@maebirdwing is talented as hell, and JUST proved she can carry a film. Smh."

It's previously reported that Will Smith wouldn't return to the sequel either. Jeff Goldblum, Judd Hirsch, and Bill Pullman, meanwhile, will reprise the roles they originated in the 1996 "Independence Day".

Dean Devlin, Emmerich and Harald Kloser produce the movie while James A. Woods and Nicolas Wright wrote the most recent draft. The sequel currently titled "ID Forever Part 1" will hit U.S. theaters on June 24, 2016.
