Warner Bros. announces they 'have decided not to move forward with plans to develop and direct Wonder Woman together' with the 'Game of Thrones' director.

"Wonder Woman" has lost its director, The Hollywood Reporter learns. The studio announces in a statement, "Given creative differences, Warner Bros. and Michelle MacLaren have decided not to move forward with plans to develop and direct Wonder Woman together."
Similar incident happened at Marvel in 2011 when Patty Jenkins was tapped for "Thor: The Dark World". The second "Thor" movie ended up being directed by Alan Taylor after the female helmer gave up the project due to creative differences.
It's unclear if Warner Bros. will hire another female helmer to fill in the vacant spot, but Jennifer Kent ("The Babadook"), Lesli Linka Glatter ("Homeland"), Kathryn Bigelow ("Zero Dark Thirty (2012)"), and Catherine Hardwicke ("Twilight") were among the rumored names previously considered by the studio before MacLaren ("Breaking Bad", "The Walking Dead", and "Game of Thrones") was hired.
"Wonder Woman" is set for June 23, 2017 with Gal Gadot in the lead role, but she will appear in "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" (March 25, 2016) first. If WB sticks to their 2017 schedule, this movie could be the first blockbuster superhero movie led by a female character since Marvel won't release their superheroine movie "Captain Marvel" until November 2, 2018.
