Columbia Pictures/Sony is gearing up towards the remake of the 1983 action-thriller flick "Blue Thunder". The production company has had Craig Kyle on board adapting the screenplay based on the original, which was written by Dan O'Bannon and Don Jakoby, and directed by John Badham.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, unlike the original version, the remake will update the ultimate helicopter with an advanced drone of the 21st century. Plot details remain unknown at the time of writing, and cast have not been named just yet.

The still-in-development remake will see Dana Brunetti and Michael De Luca reuniting as producers. The duo, who last worked together on the hit film "Fifty Shades of Grey", will be joined on the producer seats by Jason Blumenthal.

The first "Blue Thunder" film starred Roy Scheider and Daniel Stern. It was then adapted into a short-lived TV series in 1984.
