AceShowbiz -

Premium cable network Starz is signing Lucy Lawless to star on its series "Ash vs. Evil Dead". The project will team her up with husband Robert Tapert who serves as its executive producer alongside Sam Raimi.

"Ash vs. Evil Dead" tells the story of Bruce Campbell's Ash, "a stock boy, aging lothario and chainsaw-handed monster hunter who has spent the past three decades avoiding responsibility, maturity and the terrors of the Evil Dead. When a Deadite plague threatens to destroy all of mankind, Ash is finally forced to face his demons - personal and literal. Destiny, it turns out, has no plans to release the unlikely hero from its evil grip." Lawless will be portraying the role of Ruby, "a mysterious figure who is myopic in her quest to hunt down the source of the recent Evil outbreaks. The only problem: She believes that Ash is the cause of it all."

Lawless and Campbell, who were co-stars on "Xena: Warrior Princess", are joined in the cast ensemble by previously announced stars Jill Marie Jones, Ray Santiago, and Dana DeLorenzo. The series, which is a sequel to the horror film franchise "The Evil Dead", will consist of 10 half-hour episodes.
