Maggie Smith lives in a van in the first trailer of "The Lady in the Van". Arriving online on Thursday, February 26, the trailer sees the Oscar-winning actress as a homeless woman named Miss Shepherd who drives around her old van in a neighborhood before choosing a spot in a driveway of a man named Bennet (played by Alex Jennings).
Bennet allows her to stay a bit until she can sort herself out, but she ends up living in the driveway for the next 15 years. Midway through the video, the neighbors can be seen accepting her as a part of their neighborhood and visiting her in the van to give her Christmas presents. Bennet next can be seen giving her some tips about painting and pushing her on a wheelchair down the street.
"Lady in the Van" is a true story which has already been adapted as stage play and radio drama before being turned into a feature film. Apart from Smith, the upcoming drama also stars James Corden and Dominic Cooper. Directed by Nicholas Hytner with a script by Alan Bennet, it arrives in theaters in the U.S. later this year.
