New Line has been planning to kick off the film's production by August and eyeing a summer 2016 release.

AceShowbiz - After a heated auction, New Line has won the rights to new comedy "The House" and has cast actor-comedian Will Ferrell to headline the new feature. The film studio plans to make the film with a low $40 million budget and looking forward for an August start date with a summer 2016 release.

Ferrell, as reported by Deadline, will be on board playing "a guy, who, with his wife, blows their daughter's college fund. Desperate for cash, they team with some neighbors to open an illegal casino in the suburbs." Other cast have not been named just yet.

In addition to starring in, Ferrell will produce the upcoming flick alongside Adam McKay. Writing the script were Andrew J. Cohen and Brendan O'Brien, both of whom previously scripted the 2014 comedy "Neighbors".

Prior to "The House", Ferrell could be seen acting opposite Kevin Hart in the upcoming "Get Hard" slated to hit theaters on March 27. The 47-year-old film star is currently shooting his next film "Daddy's Home".
