Bryan Cranston is linked to a villainous role in "Star Trek 3". According to a new report by Film Divider, people behind the space adventure production are eyeing the "Breaking Bad" star to take part in the movie. The site reports that the script for "Star Trek 3" is written for a "Bryan Cranston-like" character and Paramount Pictures is now pursuing the actor.

"The major new role for a male actor will be the villain," the site wrote. "As we understand it, he's supposed to be Bryan Cranston-like, to the point that Cranston himself has had words with the studio about taking the role." The site, however, shared that there was no immediate info regarding the outcome of the supposed negotiation.

The site additionally gave more scoop regarding the cast, suggesting that there would be "three major new female characters." One character is the captain of another Federation ship, while the second character is the President of the United Federation of Planets. The other character is Bones' ex-wife.

"Star Trek 3" is directed by Justin Lin and is set for release on July 8, 2016 with Simon Pegg serving as a co-writer. "It's the best thing that could have happened to us," Chris Pine said of Pegg's scribing gig in a new interview with Collider at the Sundance Film Festival. "So excited to have Simon behind it. I think the big thing with Trek is that there's a nice comedic bent to it, so to have Simon architecting that is perfect."
