The 'Girls' creator and actress told Ryan Seacrest on the red carpet, 'I deleted Twitter because I'm trying to create a safer space for myself emotionally.'

AceShowbiz - Lena Dunham announced she quit Twitter on the red carpet of the 2015 Golden Globe Awards on Sunday, January 11. She told Ryan Seacrest, "I deleted Twitter because I'm trying to create a safer space for myself emotionally."

The 28-year-old actress then explained, "People threaten my life and tell me what a cow I am so I decided I was going to..." Her "Girls" co-star Andrew Rannells then added, "Cut that out." Lena said she's not off Twitter entirely. "I check it occasionally, but it's not the same codependence Twitter and I once shared," she said.

The "Tiny Furniture" actress continued, "The dark side of the Internet. There's a lot of people I love on Twitter, but unfortunately you can't read those without reading deranged neo-cons telling you you should be buried under a pile of rocks."

Ryan then told Lena, "Come on that doesn't happen," to which she replied, "Get into the world, Ryan."

Hours before stepping out on the red carpet, Lena took to Twitter to promote the season premiere of "Girls". She tweeted, " 'Girls' Season 4 premieres tonight at 9pm on HBO. No presh. I mean, who cares, right!?"
