Just one day after Chris Rock and his wife Malaak Compton-Rock announced they're divorcing, it's revealed that she has been keeping her kids away from him. In his divorce documents obtained by TMZ, Chris claimed Malaak was preventing him from seing their two daughters Lola, 12, and Zahra, 10, on a regular basis.
According to the documents filed in New Jersey last Tuesday, December 23, the former "Saturday Night Live" star was seeking for shared legal and physical custody of their daughters. For finances, he acknowledged that he and Malaak had a prenup when they got married in 1996, but claimed it was expired as they were married for 18 years.
TMZ reported that the divorce was in the works for at least a month. Chris and Malaak identified in November all property to be divided after their divorce, according to his legal documents. The "Top Five" actor seemingly tried to curb the amount of spousal support payments as he claimed that Malaak had the "ability to work and contribute to her own support."
Malaak announced in a statement on Sunday, December 28 that she and Chris were divorcing. "After much contemplation and 19 years of marriage, Chris and I have decided to go our separate ways," she said, "Being fortunate enough to lead a life of service by working with those most vulnerable makes me well aware of life's blessings, even when faced with difficulties."
Malaak's statement was followed with a confirmation from Chris' lawyer Robert S. Cohen. "Chris Rock has filed for divorce from his wife, Malaak. This is a personal matter and Chris requests privacy as he and Malaak work through this process and focus on their family," Robert said.
