Tom Cruise Courted for 'Highlander' Reboot
Movie

The 'Mission: Impossible 5' actor is approached to assume the mentor role originally played by Sean Connery.

Tom Cruise is eyed to star in Summit Entertainment's long-delayed reboot of the classic fantasy film "Highlander". According to a scoop from TheWrap, the "Jack Reacher" actor has got an offer to play the mentor role originally portrayed by Sean Connery in the original flick.

However, it seems the interest is one-sided at the moment. A representative for Cruise says that the actor and the studio are "far from talks." "He is offered tons of projects," the rep claims, adding that "Highlander" is just "one of many projects that come to him and he discusses."

Cruise is currently filming "Mission: Impossible V" where he reprises his role as spy agent Ethan Hunt. He did dangerous stunts from scaling the roof of Vienna opera house in Austria to hanging from a plane 5,000 feet high in the air only with two safety harnesses.

If the "Oblivion" star signs on to the "Highlander" remake, he is believed to be able to help secure a major young star to play the main character, Connor MacLeod. The titular immortal warrior was played by Christopher Lambert in the 1986 feature film.

"Snow White and the Huntsman" visual effects supervisor Cedric Nicolas-Troyan will make his directorial debut with the remake, while Art Marcum, Matt Holloway and Melissa Rosenberg help with the script. Neal H. Moritz, Peter Davis and Justin Lin serve as producers.
