Robert De Niro and Bradley Cooper to Join Jennifer Lawrence in 'Joy'
Movie

David O. Russell wants De Niro and writes a role for Cooper to join the adaptation of the true rags-to-riches story of Miracle Mop inventor Joy Mangano.

AceShowbiz - After securing Jennifer Lawrence, David O. Russell is now targeting Robert De Niro and Bradley Cooper for his next directing vehicle "Joy". "I think I'd very much like De Niro to be in it, I think he's gonna be in it," the helmer spilled to Go.

"And of course I always create a role for Bradley Cooper," the Oscar-nominated director dished on further. "I try to have things people have never done. Then they can get excited, and it's exciting for audiences. That's what makes it daring in some way."

Lawrence is expected to play the main character Joy Mangano, the inventor of the Miracle Mop. According to The Hollywood Reporter, De Niro has already entered negotiations to join the cast ensemble. His role is still unknown and so is Cooper's.

The film will chronicle the story of a struggling Long Island single mom of three who became one of the country's most successful entrepreneurs. Her salvation came with a self-wringing mop that became an HSN sensation and allowed her to stop working three jobs to support her kids.

"Really they (producers) came to Jennifer Lawrence and myself," Russell explained how he got involved in the project. "I immediately recognized a great opportunity to do something neither Jennifer nor I have done. It's the story of a certain woman, what's going on inside her from a young girl, broke, to when she becomes a bit of a mogul, a bit of a power broker."

"And the people she's surrounded by are extremely ... she has very complicated, deep, personal family relationships, which are the bane of her and the reason she is who she is. There are great roles for other actors as well, to create a world."

Russell and Lawrence previously teamed up in critically-acclaimed 2012's "Silver Linings Playbook" and 2013's "American Hustle" which also starred Cooper. While it will be the third time Russell joins forces with Lawrence and Cooper, the film will mark the two stars' fourth collaboration. Lawrence and Cooper will next share screen in "Serena".
