It's a done deal for Joseph Gordon-Levitt to play Edward Snowden in a movie directed by Oliver Stone. Producers confirmed the casting on Monday, November 10 while announcing Open Road Films and Endgame Entertainment's involvement in the project.

"After working with Oliver on 'W' I am thrilled to be back in business with him, along with Joseph Gordon-Levitt, the filmmmaking team and Endgame Entertainment, on this exciting project," Tom Ortenberg, CEO of Open Road Films, said. James D. Stern, CEO of Endgame Entertainment, added, "I've long been an admirer of Oliver Stone and this continues our determination to work with great directors. I'm also delighted to renew our collaboration with Open Road and look forward to participating in this important film."

The pic, which is yet titled, will follow the former National Security Agency contractor who blew the whistle on the US government's mass surveillance programs. Stone, who will direct the film, wrote the screenplay based on books "The Snowden Files: The Inside Story of the World's Most Wanted Man" by Luke Harding and "Time of the Octopus" by Anatoly Kucherena.

Stone actually had revealed last week that Snowden would be played by Gordon-Levitt, whom he called "a very good actor, popular with the young people." In an interview with Russian news site RIA Novosti, the director said, "We are working on the script. We hope to shoot early next year, we've been working on it for almost a year now ...and we're very pleased it's coming along."

Production will now officially start in January in Munich. Moritz Borman and Eric Kopeloff will produce the pic. Borman said that the selection of Open Road and Endgame ensured that the film would be "independent in the true sense, where political pressures will not come into play."
