Mark Wahlberg is attached to star as "The Six Billion Dollar Man". The Oscar nominee will reunite with his "Lone Survivor" director Peter Berg in the project developed by Dimension Films.

"Six Billion Dollar Man" is a remake of the 1970s TV series "The Six Million Dollar Man" with inflation adjustment. The original starred Lee Majors as an astronaut who, after a near-fatal plane crash, needed to be refitted with bionic body parts in a life-saving operation that famously cost $6 million. Steve Austin (Majors) uses his bionic superpowers to work as a secret agent for government's Office of Scientific Intelligence.

A spin-off titled "The Bionic Woman" starring Lindsay Wagner was equally successful on television but a 2007 reboot starring Michelle Ryan was canceled after only a few episodes.

Per Deadline, Bob Weinstein is producing the remake along with Berg and his producing partner Sarah Aubrey, Wahlberg's production company Closest to the Hole Prods. and Wahlberg's producing partner Stephen Levinson. The Weinstein Company wants to reintroduce the character to a new generation of fans with better CGI and modern equipments.

Production begins next year for a 2016 release.
