Disney unveiled the new title on the official 'Star Wars' Twitter account which also announced the end of principal photography.

The latest "Star Wars" movie will no longer be recognized as "Star Wars Episode VII". Disney announced on Thursday, November 6 on the film's official Twitter page that the title would be "Star Wars: The Force Awakens".
At the same time, Disney said the principal photography was done but post-production days were coming ahead. Very little is known about the movie including its plot. However, the new title may suggest how the film will rely on both the old and new parts of the franchise. The "Force" obviously refers to the element that Jedi knights derive their power from while "Awakens" may refer to the new characters that are introduced.
Some sites previously reported that the film would be called "The Ancient Fear" but apparently all the leaks from the Abu Dhabi set, Forest of Dean in Gloucestershire, England and Pinewood Studios in London did not affect the title's secrecy. There are rumors too that the first trailer is coming soon.
"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" will occur three decades after the events of "Return of the Jedi". Featuring old players such as Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford, the film will hit U.S. theaters December 18, 2015.
