Former MLB pitcher Brad Halsey has passed away at the age of 33. According to USA Today, the former athlete who played for New York Yankees was found dead on Friday, October 31 at around 1 P.M. on a road in New Braunfels, Texas. Investigation into the incident is ongoing.
Judge Jennifer Saunders of Comal (Texas) County has ordered an autopsy to shed lights on Halsey's death. "It appeared that he had climbed up about a 100-foot cliff on a private property and was discovered in a little road going up into that property," she told the news outlet. "He had either jumped or fallen."
Halsey's former agent tweeted their condolences on November 4. "We are sorry to hear of the passing of longtime client, Brad Halsey. Our thoughts & prayers are with his family during this difficult time," the post read.
A source close to Halsey said that the late athlete passed away in climbing accident. Halsey's mother, meanwhile, refused to speak about the incident and asked for privacy during the difficult time. A memorial service is scheduled for Friday.
Halsey played for the New York Yankees, the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Oakland Athletics in 2004-2006. He played professionally until 2011.
