Bardem reportedly is in talks to join the fifth installment as a ghost pirate who holds revenge against Captain Jack Sparrow.

AceShowbiz - Javier Bardem could share screen with Johnny Depp and Geoffrey Rush in "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales". The 45-year-old actor is reportedly in early talks to play the villain in the fifth film of the hit franchise.

Plot for the fifth installment is still under wraps but The Wrap reported that Bardem's role would be Captain Brand. The character is "a ghost bent on revenge against Capt. Jack Sparrow, who he holds responsible for the murder of his brother." THR added that he's also "searching for a supernatural object to aid him."

Christoph Waltz was also previously rumored to play the villain in the film but it looked like Bardem was the one who came as the frontrunner. Depp is set to reprise his role as Sparrow, Rush as Captain Barbossa with possible cameos from Orlando Bloom and Keith Richards as Will Turner and Captain Teague respectively.

There is also a female role yet to be filled. Sparrow will get a love interest, a woman who is accused of being a witch. The studio is additionally still looking for a young male to become Depp's sidekick, very much like Bloom's character in the first three installments.

"Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales" is set to be released July 17, 2017.
