Despite its ties to "The Conjuring", "Annabelle" doesn't feature paranormal investigators Ed and Lorainne Warren who appeared in the 2013 movie. In the original movie, the Warrens who were played by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga were told to have just finished a case involving a possessed doll called Annabelle before taking on the case in the Perrons' cursed house.

To Cinema Blend, "Annabelle" director John Leonetti explains why the Warrens don't make appearance in the spin-off which tells the origin of the demonic doll. "Honestly, yes, we would have loved for them to join the party, if you will, but I just don't think it was viable with their schedule and ours, so we just did it the way we did it," he says.

While Ed and Lorainne don't appear on screen, their presence is still felt in "Annabelle". The movie opens with a sequence in which the Warrens are interviewing two nurses about the creepy doll, but their faces are not seen in it.

"Annabelle" is currently playing in theaters across the nation.

"The Conjuring" sequel, "The Conjuring 2: The Enfield Poltergeist", is already in development for a slated October 23, 2015 release. Both Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga have signed up to reprise their roles.
