Jackie Chan's son, Jaycee Chan, was arrested on suspicion of allowing other people to abuse drugs, Chinese prosecutors said on Wednesday, September 18. If Jaycee is found guilty, he can be sentenced to three years in jail.
Dongcheng District prosecutor's office announced on their official Sina Weibo microblog that they had approved Jaycee's arrest following a request from police one week earlier. The news was relayed by China Central Television and The People's Daily.
Jaycee was detained in Beijing on August 14 along with Taiwanese movie star Kai Ko. Police said that the two actors tested positive for marijuana and admitted to using the drug. Cops also found 100 grams of the illegal drug at Jaycee's house.
In late August, Kai was released after 14 days being in custody. Following his release, he held a press conference with his parents and agent, apologizing for his run-in with the law.
In China, police can formally arrest a suspect if they have official approval from prosecutors. After obtaining the approval, police can continue the investigation. A trial will be held if police decide to criminally charge the suspect. Maximum sentence for allowing other people to use drugs in a property, workplace or hotel is three years in jail.
