Joan Rivers' personal doctor, who reportedly took selfie in the procedure room before performing biopsy on the late comedian, is identified as New York physician Gwen Korovin, TMZ reports. According to the site, Gwen was not authorized to practice medicine at Yorkville Endoscopy.
Gwen is the Broadway best known ear, nose and throat doctor whose patients include Celine Dion, Lady Gaga, Hugh Jackman, John Mayer and Brooke Shields. In some photos on her Facebook page, Gwen's office has pictures of her celebrity patients lining the walls.
Gwen previously appeared on Celine's 2010 documentary "Celine: Through the Eyes of the World". In a clip obtained by the site, Gwen can be seen performing a vocal cord procedure and joking around with the "Loved Me Back to Life" singer.
When recently asked for a comment, a spokeperson of Gwen's office told TMZ, "We do not comment on matters related to patients."
In other news, Joan's daughter, Melissa Rivers, has returned to Twitter for the first time after her mother's passing. She wrote, "As my son Cooper and I mourn the loss of my mother, we want to thank everyone for the beautiful cards and flowers conveying heartfelt messages and condolences, which continue to arrive from around the world and through social media."
"My mother would have been overwhelmed by the scope and depth of the love that people have expressed for her," she continued, "It is certainly helping to lift our spirits during this time. We are forever grateful for your kindness and support in continuing to honor my mother's legacy, and for remembering the joy and laughter that she brought to so many."
Joan passed away on September 4 at the age of 81, eight days after she was hospitalized following cardiac and respiratory arrest during a throat surgery.
