George Clooney will be the recipient of 2015 Cecil B. DeMille Award at the 72nd annual Golden Globes ceremony. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced Monday, September 15 that the actor and humanitarian would be honored for his contribution to cinema.

"The HFPA is honored to bestow the Cecil B. DeMille Award to George Clooney to celebrate his outstanding contributions both in front of and behind the camera," HFPA President Theo Kingma said in a statement. Clooney follows in the footsteps of Woody Allen, Steven Spielberg, Jodie Foster and Morgan Freeman among others.

Clooney has starred in "Syriana", "Ocean's Eleven", "Gravity" and most recently "The Monuments Men". He also had notable roles in medical drama "ER" as well as "Roseanne". He directed such films as "Good Night and Good Luck", "The Ides of March" and recently signed up to direct phone scandal movie "Hack Attack".

Honoring excellence in film and television, the 2015 Golden Globe Awards ceremony will be held in Los Angeles on January 11.
