Miley Cyrus may end up canceling her upcoming concert in the Dominican Republic. As reported by the Associated Press, the local government commission that oversees public performances has decided to ban the 21-year-old star's gig scheduled for September 13 on morality grounds.

In a statement issued on Thursday, August 21, the commission explained they took the action because Cyrus often "undertakes acts that go against morals and customs, which are punishable by Dominican law."

A rep for the former Disney star hasn't responded to a request for comment. There's still no word either from the concert organizer in the country.

Cyrus is currently in the North American leg of her "Bangerz" tour, which was launched earlier this year to support her latest chart-topping LP of the same title. She's scheduled to return to the MTV Video Music Awards in California on Sunday, August 24, but not as a performer.

MTV has confirmed on Twitter that the singer, who made numerous headlines for her controversial performance with Robin Thicke at last year's ceremony, will be among attendees at the annual event as her "Wrecking Ball" is up for Video of the Year award.
