With the two projects having very similar plots, the studio combines them to build a new universe and make a potential franchise.

Sony is merging two projects very similar in subjects, about the Greek Gods on earth. Stan Lee's "Apollo Rising" will be melded with Victoria Aveyard's "Eternal" to make a not-yet-titled Greek Gods project.

Based on an original idea by Lee, "Apollo Rising" was developed by Lee and Avi Arad. According to Deadline, it's about Greek Gods living amongst humans on earth in various hidden forms. Meanwhile, "Eternal" was a spec script by Aveyard which was purchased by Sony earlier this year. It's a modern day take on the Greek Gods arriving on earth, featuring various mythical creatures such as minotaurs.

Back in February, Variety reported that Aveyard was rewriting the spec she originally wrote. The purchase will allow Sony to build a new universe that has a franchise potential. "Divergent" producer Pouya Shabazian, Benderspink's J.C. Spink and Michael Costigan were already on board to produce. Arad, Lee and Jake Weiner have now joined the list.

Sony had been thinking about combining the two stories before but the idea went back and forth. Deadline reported that they finally found a good combination to do it.
